Food For Thought #9 - Sincerity Vs. Duplicity
sin·cer·i·ty (n.) The quality or condition of being sincere; genuineness, honesty, and freedom from duplicity.
Sincerity. Sincerity is something I wish to keep constant in my character. In life, people are always correcting character flaws. If ever I find one that has to do with Sincerity, I do my best to fix it.
So one of my own pet peeves is Duplicity. Honestly I just discovered the word, although I knew of its meaning. (If that made any sense.) And I am hurt when I am a victim of Duplicity.
du·plic·i·ty n. (pl. du·plic·i·ties)
1. a. Deliberate deceptiveness in behavior or speech.
b. An instance of deliberate deceptiveness; double-dealing.
2. The quality or state of being twofold or double.
3. Doubleness of heart or speech; insincerity; a sustained form of deception which consists in entertaining or pretending to entertain one of feelings, and acting as if influenced by another; bad faith.
And yes, just recently, I feel as if I have been a victim of Duplicity.
So up to this point in my life, or rather when I have realized my true self, I can guarantee that 95% of the time I speak, I am sincere (Hey, no ones perfect). So when I am a victim of Duplicity, especially from someone who I have been most sincere with, it hurts. I don't think I've said that enough.
Whenever I say something, anything, I am always sincere and I never take it back. Unless of course that I actually verbally say "I take it back, I was wrong" But unless I have say that, I mean it till my dying day. So what does it mean, when a person's actions and words contradict what that person has once said? I abhor it. For instance, say a girl (Mandy) dates a boy (Billy). They break up eventually but Mr Ego (Billy) tells his buddies that Mandy was never attractive but Billy said everyday to Mandy that she was the most beautiful girl in the world. So now that we know that Billy says that Mandy is not beautiful, does that mean Billy was just telling Mandy lies? or is he lying to his buddies? By commiting an act of Duplicity, Billy has created doubts. Who knows whats the truth.
Thats why I avoid Duplicity. It's something I have come to hate. Right now, I don't know whats what anymore.
